The Preston family home from Genesis finally tracked down

THE LONG SOUGHT-AFTER location of Greg Preston's house (which the civil engineer is depicted returning to by helicopter in Genesis) has been confirmed by Survivors' location hunter Steve Clutterbuck.

The Preston family home is located on the outskirts of the Monmouthshire village of Llanddewi Rhydderch, around five miles outside Abergavenny. [Review the exact location on StreetMap.]

The location of the motorway bridge over which Greg's helicopter flies had recently been identifed as being on the Abergavenny bypass, and Steve decided that that would be a good place to start his latest search for this most elusive of Survivors locations.

Steve explains: "I spent a few days studying a map of Abergavenny, and put together a route covering all of the places in the area that I wanted to check out. I put all the destinations into my sat-nav and set off along the B4233, stopping at various point along a five mile stretch of road to peer through gaps in the hedge with my binoculars. I must have looked very odd to people passing by at high speed!"

Just then a farmer in a tractor pulled over and got out of his cab to ask me if I was lost

"Around four miles from Abergavenney, just after a turn to Llanvapley on the road heading towards Llanarth I pulled off to check the map," adds Steve. "Just then a farmer in a tractor pulled over and got out of his cab to ask me if I was lost. I showed him some screen shots and he was convinced that the location of the house was somewhere around Ysgyryd Fawr. As I drove towards the B4521 to check it out, I became convinced myself that this could be the place, but it turned out be a frustrating false lead."

After spending the night in a local B&B, Steve set off again the following morning. "I headed towards Llanddewi Rhydderch when I spotted a postman's van, so I pulled over to ask his advice and show him the screencaptures. To my surprise, he thought he recognised the location, and gave me directions up the hill and past the local church."

"As I rounded a corner I saw a big white building in the distance, which looked just like the one in the background in Genesis when Greg drives off. I headed towards it down a narrow lane, but I soon realised I was being directed further away from the house, so I turned around: a difficult seven-point manoeuvre, given how tight the lane was."

"When I parked up a woman came out of her house and I showed her the screenshots. To my amazement she said that she that that white house was that of her next door neighbour - only thirty feet away from where I was parked."

"I was gobsmacked," admits Steve, "and I kept asking her if she was sure! She told me to drive down the road and take the next right. I did just that, and - sure enough - there it was: Greg's house. What a brilliant find and a what a fantastic day!"
