Derbyshire's 'plague village'

The Derbyshire village of Eyam is located north-east of Chesterfield and south-west of Sheffield, on the B6521, just off the A623.

BY CAR:

To approach Eyam from Matlock: take the A6 northwards through Bakewell. Past Bakewell turn right, off the A6, at the sign for Ashford in the Water and Monsal Head, to join the A6020. Take an almost immediate left to enter the village of Ashford, (signposted for Monsal Head and Wardlow) and then turn right at the Ashford Arms public house to join the narrow B6465. Follow this winding road past Monsal Head and on to its junction with the A623. Take a right turn onto the A623, then a left turn onto the B6251, to arrive in the village of Eyam.

To approach Eyam from Chesterfield: join the A619, travelling westwards towards Nether End and Baslow. Follow signs for the A623, towards Calver. After the village of Stoney Middleton, take a right turn onto the B6251, to arrive in the village of Eyam.

To approach Eyam from Sheffield: join the A625 southbound. South of Dore, follow signs for the A6251, and follow this through Nether Padley and Grindleford, to arrive in the village of Eyam.

To travel by car from Eyam to Monsal Dale

To travel by car from Eyam to Monsal Dale: take the B6521 south from Eyam, to its intersection with the A623. Turn right, and travel west. Take a left turn onto the B6465, following signs for Wardlow and Monsal Head. Keep straight ahead along this winding road. Pass both the left hand turn for Little Longstone, and then the immediate right turn into the Monsal valley, before taking a sharp right (on the far side of the Monsal Head hotel) into the pay-and-display car park.

BY TRAIN:
