IN OCTOBER 2003, the first series of Survivors was released on DVD, in a four-disc set by DD Video. Special features included in the release were:
Episode commentaries on The Fourth Horseman (with director Pennant Roberts and actress Carolyn Seymour [Abby]) and Law and Order (with Lucy Fleming [Jenny] and Ian McCulloch [Greg])
On-camera interviews with Lucy Fleming, Ian McCulloch, Pennant Roberts, Tanya Ronder [Lizzie] and Carolyn Seymour
A photo gallery of BBC promotion stills and behind-the-scenes shots by Lucy Fleming
Mute cine-camera footage from the Hampton Court shoot of the first series finale A Beginning
Fully-illustrated Viewing Notes booklet, documenting the history of the programme and introducing each of the thirteen episodes of the series, authored by consultant on the release Andy Priestner
The series was simultaneously re-released on a set of three double-pack VHS PAL videos, also available in a combined six-tape box-set.
Reviewing the release for Ultimate DVD David Richardson declared the show: “A sobering, unsensationalized ‘70s drama... intelligent storytelling is complemented by powerful performances... Still relevant almost three decades on” (Issue 48, 2003).
