THE SEQUENCES FROM Genesis in which Jenny Richards meets Tom Price for a second time, and beds down alone in a clothes shop before finally meeting up with Greg Preston, were all filmed in the main street of Lydney in the Forest of Dean.
The clothes shop from which Tom emerges, carrying his latest haul, is now an Age Concern charity shop. It is located at the far end of the row of shops that make up the main street of Lydney.
Tom's second encounter with Jenny — in which she pleads to be taken with him, before he abandons her once again — was filmed in the side street next to the shop and facing the Swan Hotel. After Tom drives off, a disconsolate Jenny enters the shop, expressing her frustration by lashing out at a box of shoes, before reluctantly bedding down for the night on a pile of coats.
When she hears the sound of breaking glass the following morning, Jenny emerges from the shop and — approaching a car she spots parked several shops down — she encounters Greg Preston leaving a chemist's clutching a supply of medicines. She promptly collapses onto the roadway. These sequences were shot at locations slightly further down the main Lydney high street. Since 1975, the zebra crossing has become a pelican crossing, and moved further away from the road junction, and the shop that served as the chemist's is now a florist's by the name of 'Poppies'.
